But until a few years ago, the US military wouldn't turn off the
'selective
availability' coding feature which limited position accuracy to the
nearest
100 metres. With SA turned off, domestic GPS receivers can calculate
position to the nearest 10 metres which is far better.

Military GPS still gets better than that since if you were targetting an
object to destroy with a missile, getting it wrong by 10 metres can mean
missing the target, or hitting in the wrong place. 8-)
