Mazda 121 hard to ****ft gears

Hi,

My daughter has just come home saying here 95 121 sometimes is hard to
****ft between 1st and 2nd. It does not do it all the time and it never
crunches between gears. The floor mat is not under the pedal and as it
is late here I will be looking at it tomorrow. But any thoughts on
what it might be for me to check. The car has always been serviced and
has never had any major problems.
