Garbage. The sentence is about right for the crime. He was driving in a 
manner that was not only reckless and dangerous, he failed to obey 
police directions several times. To use your machine gun analogy another 
way... Imagine walking down Bourke St in Melbourne with a loaded machine 
gun. Police ask you to stop and drop your weapon but you keep walking 
aiming the weapon at various people and firing a few rounds into the 
sky. I can tell you now that you won't get 5 years because they will be 
picking pieces of 38 caliber out of you for days. If you survive you 
will be in jail for a long time. In essence what he did was extremely 
stupid and now he has a bit of time to think about it. He is extremely 
fortunate not to have killed anyone, but how many people had to take 
evasive action to avoid an accident with him and how many other vehicles 
were damaged in doing that?
