It maybe the oil-pressure sender/sensor is nutted,..but to test for
bearing
noise first wait for the engine to reach normal operating
temperature,..then
you pop the bonnet and grab hold of the throttle cable or its bell-crank.
Bring the engine to about 1500 rpm, then "gun" it *quickly* to 2500 rpm,
then release it. This should take nolonger than 2 seconds. During the
revs
increase (1500>2500) the bearings are under much increased load and, any
bearing knock (bigends) or thuds (main bearings) will be easy to hear. If
you do it cold, the engine will sound quiet. OTOH, any piston noise is
more
apparent cold than hot.
Because it gets better with thicker oil,..it sounds like increased bearing
clearances somewhere. High mileage Taxi engines, spit out bigends first.
Another way is to get out onto an express-way, then while doing around
80>100kph, back off the throttle slightly,..just enough to cause a very
slow
reduction in speed. Bad bigends often make a chattering noise in this
instance.
