It would be a good hack for that sort of money provided you are handy
with tools and are willing to spend a bit of time working on it.
If the engine isn't making any noises I'd suspect the oil sender before
a bearing, installing a gauge would be the best way of finding out if it
does have an oil pressure problem.
The auto ****ft problem can be improved sometimes by disconnecting the
battery for a couple of hours so that the computer loses its memory, it
worked on one EF I tried it on but the problem did come back eventually.
