I'm told that the Pregio van diesel (same one?) is a Nissan-Perkins,
with Nissan having bought Perkins and modernised the designs. The
underlying engine still has ancient Perkins heritage. :-)
I'm also told that there is a turbo kit available for $3300 from Wagga
for the Pregio, but that a place called Turboglide at Corrimal (near
Woolongong) does the conversion drive-in, drive-out including dynoing,
new exhaust, etc. for $3600. I've gotta remember to pass that on to my
neighbour who has a Pregio and was wondering about turboing it...

The whole idea is that the oil should hold the rubbish in suspension so
that the filter can catch it, and that it is removed from the engine by
doing an oil and filter change...

Nope. The proper test uses a smoke opacity meter. The in-service "snap"
test is purely visual.
