Wasn't aftermarket.  But you make a good point - I don't know if it was a 
BA, BF, or what.  I saw an older BA-era taxi and it didn't have the
lights, 
so maybe it was only just added in the BF or BF2?  Since then I have seen 
the same exact 'circular dot' tail-light pattern on the following
vehicles:
VZ Commodore
Hyundai Accent (prev. shape)
2008 Accord
So obviously it's not LED.  I was mistaken.  Quite interesting how they
get 
it to look as if there's tons and tons of little lights when there aren't.
