Registering a kit car in Australia

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in getting a (new) kit car 
registered in Australia - Specifically Victoria? Do we have anything
similar 
to the single vehicle approvals available in the US and UK? Do all current

ADRs have to be met (noise, emissions etc.), or are any exempt when
looking 
at low volume vehicles?

Also - are British motor vehicle approval standards similar to ours? Any 
major differences? (the car I'm interested in is a kit car manufactured in

the UK and it currently meets their standards)
