What John H is referring to is in between some of the tread blocks on
your tyre you'll see a little raised section. Almost like a bridge
between tread blocks. That's the depth indicator, and if the blocks
are worn enough to be the same height as that then you're officially
illegal. Having said that, many tyres are at pretty poor performance
levels even before they hit this indicator.
