The GM 6.2 and 6.5 diesels go into Patrols and Landcruisers quite well,
with or without turbo (but I wouldn't recommend any diesel without a
turbo). Fitting kits are available from Brunswick Diesel and Marks 4WD.

The 1UZ-FE is popular in Hiluxes. I'd probably look for something a
bit bigger for a 'cruiser. Injected plastic would be the cheap option,
otherwise a SBC either on straight gas or an injected one (to comply with
emissions).

Probably too heavy for the vehicle. An inline engine beyond about 5.5L
is likely to be too long, too. The GM V8 engines are about the largest
capacity that are practical, and that's because the V8 layout is lighter
and more compact than an inline of similar capacity.
