I just do as you did and slow down, no point in increasing the danger by 
speeding up, if possible I would also move over for the same reason.
If re****ting him to the police and maybe his boss doesn't get any 
results I'm stuffed if I know what else you can do, violence may work 
but it could result in you being charged with assault and that would be 
counter productive as it would mean the tailgater would become the 
victim (of road rage) instead of the guilty party.
We really need many many Police patrolling the roads to stop that sort 
of **** but that costs Govt's money so its unlikely to happen.
