The problem with the Syntrx is that when the mic cord gives up they are=20
had to find(near impossible) a replacement or quite expensive to have=20
repaired and you'd have to look at getting the Syntrx Plus for ease of=20
programming
and yes for $500 you can get hold of a good Kenwood TK860G or TK880G(or=20
a TK830 up to 100 watts)
Simoco 8038 or a Tait T2020(the Taits are very overpriced anywhere other =
than Brisbane, they sell for around $400 in Sydney etc but up here you=20
can get them for $200) I've owned all of these(still have the 860G), the =
Taits are nothing special(WOW you can have words in the screen)but seem=20
to be tough enough and have a remote head option as does the Simoco 80=20
series, the 8030 and 8038 Simoco can also have a full controller mic opti=
on
not really sure of a good Icom, the IC-2010(limited channels) or maybe=20
an IC-F410, the 400Pro is ok for a CB but it is not, as many first=20
thought, Commercial quality(don't last set at 25 watts), but they have=20
good selectivity and are cheap enough
then there are Motorola radios
plenty of models to choose from here, excellent quality but can be a=20
bugger to program if you don't have the right software(what a nightmare=20
this is if you've never used their software before) or cables
the thing to watch with Commercial radios is to make sure you get a=20
radio with the freq band that CB operates on, plenty of radios on EBay=20
that are no where near CB band, put there by people who bought them=20
thinking that because it was a "Motorola UHF" that it was automatically=20
a CB when in fact it was a low band UHF trunking radio or even 800Mhz
also bear in mid that all these commercial radios will be second hand,=20
They normally sell for over $1000 new and some Motorola for a couple of=20
thousand
GME also make a commercial(two actually) the TX3600(5watt) and the=20
TX3800(25watt) both the same radio and software but one has more power
and both are very small
the TX3440 has the controller mic, everything is on the mic and the=20
radio is hidden away under the dash or seat
