In a TRUE democracy, you DO since the literal definition is rule *by
the people*. Once you get beyond a fairly limited number of people in
a society, however, the people get jack-**** say in most of the
policies that are imposed on us... speed limits being but one example.
We live under a *representation* system, not a (literally) democratic
one despite the casual way that the latter term is bandied about.
(Usually for effect rather than as a reflection of reality.)
