However those of us who live in a more tangible world are aware of how
absurdly inconsistent (and usually unnecessarily low) the limits are
on many roads.

In the last 20 years I can think of ONE instance where I've seen a
questionably high speed limit. Conversely I see instances every day
where the limits are stupidly low, especially 50 zones along main
thoroughfares when almost identical roads in other areas can be 60 or
70.

There's one road coming off the F6 back into Sydney where it drops
from 100 to 50. On a multi-lane, dual carrigeway FFS.
