I never said use *crap* oil, but cheap oil. There's a distinction.
As far as oil goes, as long as it meets the necessary spec for the engine
there is no difference between the cheapest and the most expensive in
terms
of how well it will do it's job apart from the hole it'll leave in your
wallet. Oils are one of those "con jobs" where most people think that the
more expensive it is the better it will work, and nothing could be further
from the truth.

A diesel doesn't have any more particular requirements for oil than
anything
else.
