Why not call a Subaru dealer and ask.
I'd be reluctant to disconnect the battery which would effectively 
disable any security devices which isn't a great idea on a car which 
thieves are so fond of.
I know the security system on a WRX is different to ours with its keypad 
but the "dozen visible LEDs" sounds odd, our 06 2.0R Impreza with a 
factory alarm only has one fla****ng LED.
