Moisture in car electrical systems is a funny thing, I've washed engines 
and they have fired up no problems when still wet but an hour later when 
its dried a bit the  moisture has time to get into places where it 
wasn't at first and the engine won't run.
On a VK there is large multi pin plug on the firewall near the back of 
the engine that can cause big problems if wet, I know a VL's wiring 
isn't exactly the same but I think that plug is still there so it would 
be worth a look.
