Here's a task for anyone claiming I am talking ****. Go to a tyre dealer, 
preferably one outside a capital city and have a look in their stack of 
tyres that are ready for dumping/recycling, go through them and have a
look 
at which ones have separated. They are the ones where one spot is worn
worse 
than the others, not one whole side that is caused by wheel alignment, bad

car setup or cornering too vigorously. Once you know what to look for it 
isn't too hard. Take note of the brands and country of manufacture then
get 
back to me. I've sorted thousands of casings and some retreaders had a
list 
of brands that they would not take.

Those who say it is bad driving that causes faults in tyres have it all 
backwards. It is the number of years that the tyre has been in service.
The 
shorter a tyres life the less likely it is to develop a separation, at
least 
if it is kept at a descent pressure, overheating caused by underinflation 
and overloading can cause problems in severe cases. The trend towards
lower 
profile tyres and therefore better cornering ability lead to having to
have 
the car set up better to maintain even tyre wear than before.

As to poor roads. I was living near Rockhampton where there were and still

are plenty of dirt roads if you go bush although they are slowly 
disappearing. The Caves, Cawaral and Alton Downs being 3 within 30 minutes

drive. Those roads are still nothing compared to what I get to drive on
now. 
The national highway is falling apart, the Markham section is the best I 
have ever seen it but the Madang section for the last hour of dirt has
been 
chewed up badly and the area surrounding Kundiawa is a goat track at best 
and has been blocked for 5 weeks this year in 3 or 4 different places due
to 
landslides. This is the one and only road link supplying 4 to 5 million 
people. Thanks to the Australian tax payer this link should be improving
in 
the next few years as I have heard Ausaid may be taking over maintenance
of 
the highway. The city roads are not much better with foot deep potholes 
still to be found. One of the bad sections outside the hospital was
repaired 
last week so at least that is one less to worry about.

The last I heard there were Kelly, Goodyear, Olympic, Dunlop, Bob Jane
(all 
using the same casings) and Bridgestone still manufacturing in Oz but I
left 
a few years ago now.
