Not a bad idea to be conscious after that accident so you can run
away.....

I have friends who drive up/down the Mount Hotham road and never wear
seatbelts "because it will make it impossible to get out of the car if
you lose it and are going over the edge" IIRC there have bee 3 or 4
such incidents in 20 or 30 years and the occupants have not survived
the huge drops.
There are however 100's of minor accidents on the road every winter
and dozens of major ones involving hard impacts and rollovers.

I wear my belt as do all my passengers as IMHO the odds of being in an
accident where a belt will save you from serious injury or death are
far greater than those of going over the edge and the belt stopping
your leap to safety.
