Kind of unusual to replace a catalytic convertor for an O2 sensor code

Too bad it wasn't properly diagnosed! Cleaning the mass air flow

When its registering an O2 sensor code there IS some kind of emissions
issue. It could easily be trivial.

It won't when the check engine light is on. At least not in Travis

Sounds like it to me.
I will keep it in mind if one of my clients is looking for a first car

Good move.
