Not necessarily. I have illegal tint on my truck windows. I
like it because it makes it much cooler when the sun is out.
I have had problems at inspection time with some places. They
have a device that they measure the tint with and if they do
that, then they will not pass it.
The first place that did this told me to take it to another
shop and just leave all the windows down. (They said that
they have already seen it, so can't help.) I did just that
and passed with no problem. Now I always do that.
I was stopped in Liberty Hill and got a warning for the tint
and for brake light out. So it is possible to be cited for
it. I have had mine that way for 7 years now, though, and
have never had to pay a fine or anything.
BUT, YMMV.
