You might want to look at the condition of the distributor pickup and
shaft,
you'll see a gummy substance on the rear edge of the star tipped points on
the distributor shaft, if the shaft magnet failed, or you might see a
crack.
If you look at the metal cap over the pick up at an angle, you might be
able
to see the wound coil deteriorating.
