If it's like most vehicles today it's not really a "gauge", it's just
an on-off needle. It's not uncommon for the "sender" to go bad. Try
replacing the sender first, it's the cheapest and easiest ting to try.
If that doesn't fix it you should hook up a mechanical gauge and see
what the pressure is. It should be at least 5 to 8 psi at idle.
