I don't know if I've ever had tires 7 or 8 years.  I'm no expert but a 
few things cause me to change tires.  In addition to tread wear you can 
have weathered and cracked side walls, bulges in the side walls, slow 
leaks and tires that have started making noise.  If none of those 
complaints exist, I'd keep using them.
