Problems to Fix your thoughts?

by jelwell1982@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Feb 19, 2008 at 02:08 AM

Ok so I have a 1985 CJ7 with the 4.2 inline 258ci I6 with 216,000 mi
I have compiled a list of problems/test/and possible fixes that I
would like to run by here on the group. Just maybe someone here will
say don't do that or do this. Keep in mind I drive this Jeep everyday
and despite the problems it is still a champ on the roads, even if I
do take the long way just to avoid highways and any trip that is gonna
be to hard on the old girl...
Problems:
Running rough/vibrating at speed...30-50(can't tell whether its
engine or drivetrain)
 Runs hot at low speeds(<40mph)
LEAKS OIL!! (more after running warmer than normal)
Low oil pressure (used to idle at 40psi, now stutters between 10-20
at idle)
 Heater doesn't work...
 Slight coolant leak

Tests:
Compression Test (test if head gasket is blown)
Coolant system Pressure Test(locate coolant leak)
clean engine to locate oil leaks(pan or head gasket)

My thoughts, and hopefully this is where you guys will jump in...
I am running hot at low speeds and I think this will attribute to a
heater core leak...hence the heater sucks....???and I can't build
pressure in my cooling system.
I think I have a blown head hasket which has caused the plugs to foul
and run rough...and cause the low oil presure??? and/or the coolant
leak and higher temps at low speeds...

Any question and or ideas I am hoping the old girl pulls through for
another 2 weeks until I get paid a check that is devoted to getting
the Jeep running right!

Also the vibrating around 30-50mph could be due to drivetrain...I
replaced my rear driveshaft and yoke with another old pair....yeah it
was just laziness on my part but it was the best i could do in 2 feet
of snow with the money I had:(...but the rest needs fixin before the
weather warms up for sure!!!

Thanks for the help as always!!,

Jeremy
