Progress, but my saga continues. When complete I think I'll write up
the entire adventure to maybe help the next poor person.
Actually lowering the pan was very difficult as it seemed jammed up
against the bell housing inspection plate. "Adjusted" the two tabs on
that plate that catch it from falling so they aren't any more a
problem, but still VERY difficult to drop. Sort of like the pan was
jammed up against that plate.
But I did get it dropped.
After (many)hours with scrapers and permatex gasket remove soaks and
"elbow grease" I finally got both surfaces clear of old gasket
material. Got the oil off, etc.
Then I tried to put the pan back in place using the one-piece gasket.
No joy at all .. cannot get the pan even close to back up and mated
with the bottom of the engine. It seems to catch by binding on that
bell housing inspection plate. No matter what I try it seems that
this binding stops the show!
I have heard of others with this problem, but don't know how they got
past it. Is it because the engine is being partially held by the
jacked up transmission, some binding there? Or??
I can't take it off the transmission without putting the motor mount
back, and if I put the motor mount back I cant get the pan in place??
This cannot be this big a problem, but it seems to be and I'm stuck
right now!! What am I missing????
Would somebody who's experienced this and/or knows what they are doing
please tell me what's going on and what I need to do.
I want my CJ back ..
Thanks.
