Re: Where in the world do you mount...

I have a handheld MIDLAND ALAN 42 MULTI,
(http://www.4x4cb.com/public/item.cfm?itemID=631&CFID=10633560&CFTOKEN=62703209)
which can be used either as a handheld, or you can remove the battery pack

and connect an adapter with power and antenna connections. I have also
installed an external 4" Wilson top wound fiberglass antenna on the spare
tire carrier, in a custom made mount.

The range in handheld mode is acceptable for most cases. But the range is
about 0.5 mile in open space, and less if there are obstructions in
between.
With the external antenna, it functions just as a normal CB unit. The
Wilson
antenna mounted on the spare tire carrier achieves 1.5:1 SWR, which is
good
enough for trouble free operation. I power my CB from the auxiliary power
socket (next to the cigarette lighter) and I have no problems with it.

And still no one has chimed in with there opinion on the hand held.
Does anyone else use or have used one besides me? I think they are
very useful. And had I the chance to do it all again, I would not have
mounted a radio in my Wrangler. The walkie talkie is so much more
convienient.
