Melted oil inlet?

by "Noah" <n_o_a_h_2000@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 16, 2008 at 11:34 PM

1999 Cherokee Laredo. 4.0 engine. 120000 miles. We've only has this
thing
for a few months.

First - pretty sure the head gasket is blown. There's oil in the coolant.

The oil is not contaminated and there has been no loss of coolant. I
can't
think of anything else that might have contaminated the coolant.

What got me looking around was when I went to change the oil, the plastic
cap popped right off in my hand. The threaded ****tion is melted into the
inlet on the valve cover. We never noticed it running hot and I last
checked the coolant about two months ago. I pulled the valve cover off &
luckily nothing got into the motor.

Could the cover have melted becuase of a blown head gasket?

Thanks!
