I have known people to use it, no problems. How many miles do you have? 
Switching from conventional to synthetic can cause seals to start 
leaking, especially on higher-mileage cars.

I doubt if the filter is any better than the OEM one, but it should be 
OK as long as it has a drain-back valve.
My own plans are to stick with changing conventional oil more frequently 
unless the engine is boosted like on my current car.

I have noticed the price difference between conventional and synthetic 
is getting smaller as oil prices rise.
