wife and i just bought a 1988 rx7 convertible. been learning about
the rotary engine. i work on cars as a hobby, so i'm not a complete
idiot.
here's the problem..... engine won't start. can smell gas, sounds
like no spark. check the spark at the plugs.... yellow not blue :(
pull plugs, crapped up bad. wires are old but check out ok.
replace the wires, and plugs. ( yes, i did get the correct ones and
installed them in the correct places )
still yellow spark to the plugs. check the primary side of all 3
coils and all read good according to a haynes manual.
here's my dilemma.... usually i replace the coil for 25$ or so and
figure that the secondary side was going bad. but these suckers cost
over 300$ and i'm hesitant to replace them when something else MIGHT be
wrong. not fully understanding everything about EFI, emissions, and my
complete ignorance of the rotary engine, second opinions are valuable.
any seconds on the secondary side of the coils being bad, or are there
any other things to check first ?????
TIA bob
