The IRL gave away more tickets than the sold to paying fans. I hope you
weren't one of the VERY FEW who actually paid for a ticket. You're
right, I did (and still do) comp tickets for just about every race I
attended as a spectator. But the IRL shows I saw would not be quite
good enough to be a sup****t race for a major league racing series.
Its not my vision that has failed. Its not your vision that has failed.
Its the official IRL vision that failed. It failed its fans, its
teams, the print and broadcast media, sponsors, and worst of all, the
s****t. The IRL "vision" was for all-oval, all American drivers, heroes
of the short track, no engine leases, inexpensive cars, racing not
dominated by the big money teams, etc. etc.
The IRL even failed in its most im****tant principle: preserving the
im****tance and traditions of the Indy 500.
Maybe the real vision was in the mind of Tony George as he tried to
crown himself as king of racing. Maybe it was that he'd open his
pockets in a power grab. Well he certainly opened his pockets. First
to buy a series, then to pay his way into a merger with Champ Car. But
the result is that he paid big bucks for his power play. He won, NASCAR
won. The losers were the fans, teams, track owners, sponsors, and most
im****tantly, open wheel racing.
So it seems that the IRL vision has totally failed. Maybe you've just
failed to recognize it.
Why don't you try to learn a little about racing and then come back with
some intelligent and logical contributions.
