25/8 was the last desperate effort by TG to force teams to come to his 
party.  It was his ultimate tool in his power play to control open 
wheel.  All it did was to force CART to compete against TG and create 
their own schedule.

25/8 was the reason so many fans ran away from open wheel.  It became 
the issue that divided the s****t.  Period.

Any other rationalization, such as what you describe, is the lie.
