How soon they forget...
The first woman to drive an Indy car in a race was Arlene Hiss, Mike
Hiss's wife. Phoenix, 1977. She was so slow that they flagged her
off. My recollection is that it was a stunt with the purpose of
spoiling Guthrie going down as the first.
