Nissan largo light sensor

I noticed when looking through my Japanese owners manual there's a
sensor on the front left hand inside of the car where the wind ****eld
meets the are vent roughly where the tax disk is. I asked a Japanese
friend to look at the manual she said it was a light sensor. My
question is what is a light sensor
